voicemail.
Blair is 5'7" and has dark shoulder length hair and intense blue eyes. He has two piercings in his left ear, though he is no longer wearing the earrings. He also has a nipple piercing, though he may or may not still be wearing this.
Blair is an energetic intelligent anthropological doctoral candidate who is able to think quickly on his feet, and is very capable of reading people and reacting to them effectively in order to get out of tight situations. His natural interest in people, puzzles and problem solving leads him to anthropology. This drive leads him to many trips out into the field to interact with any cultures that might have very little contact with ‘civilized’ society or those places where there are significant finds, most especially those that concern the sociology of long lost cultures. These trips are probably responsible for him still being at student at Rainer University. It is also through this interaction that he becomes slightly distrustful of modern medicine preferring cures that the tribes use.
Though Blair is ‘not all work and no play’ since even though he is slightly on the geeky side he manages to have a ‘hip’ sensibility enough to manage to know about such things as underground clubs and the eclectic music scene.
He is not organized, at least not in the traditional sense. His mind is constantly moving so he will work on something for a short time, not necessarily finishing it before moving onto something else then back as needed. His love life is also quite disorganized and chaotic. He is a lady’s man, rarely with a girl long enough to let her in and does not feel that he has met anyone who could possibly be ‘the one’. Though there are a couple of women that he feels very drawn to nothing happens with them.
His study habits also are very unique, to say the least. He often has to turn on an alarm to remember to go to bed and can get so engrossed in what he's doing that he loses track of everything else.
He is a good listener, surprisingly adept at getting even those closed off to open up, perhaps because of all his time around therapists. Even though he seems very open about himself he is an expert at keeping in things he does not want to revealed. He does not hesitate to lie, well to him they are ‘obfuscations’, when it suits him, though he does it more when he thinks it might benefit someone, for example saying how he overcame some fictional obstacle in order to help a friend face a similar problem.
Blair lived his young life travelling with his free sprit mother, in fact he is not certain who his father is, because to her the fact she loved him was more important. Somewhere in these travels young Blair became interested in ancient civilizations and encounters a book entitled “The Sentinels of Paraguay” written in the 1800s by the explorer Sir Richard Burton. The Sentinels were the watchmen of their tribe watching for the movement of game, change in weather, basically anything concerning tribal safety. They were able to do this by a genetic advantage of heightened senses.
Blair attends Rainer University at 16 eventually becoming a student teacher there. It isn’t long though untill his interest in Sentinels begins to direct what he wants to do with his life and he decides to make his thesis about them. There’s a slight problem, there doesn’t seem to be a modern Sentinel, at least until he manages, through a female friend who happens to be a nurse, to meet Detective Jim Ellison. It takes some doing, but he manages to convince Jim to let him experiment to find out more about Jim’s heightened senses, and to help Jim learn to control them.
Because he needs to be around Jim as much as possible they convince Captain Simon Banks to let Blair work with Jim as an observer, barely managing to keep the other detectives of Major Crimes from finding out the truth. Eventually he ends up moving into Jim's loft after his own studio apartment is destroyed. Though Blair is almost constantly reminded ‘you are not a cop’ he ends up gaining the Captain’s respect by helping Jim solve some of the toughest cases that Major Crimes has seen. Blair’s mother also at first does not approve of her son’s choice, but after she helps them solve an auto theft ring she makes peace with it.
Even though he is hesitant to finish the thesis because of fear that it might mean the end of his friendship with Jim, and an end to the excitement of working with the police he finishes it just moments before he arrives.
Your character's initial personal inventory: He has on him a laptop computer, circa 1999, with battery at full power; this includes the power cord and a pair of headphones.
He is wearing a blue flannel shirt, a navy shirt underneath that, a gray jacket with a collar, also he is wearing a red plaid scarf, faded jeans, hiking boots and he has his car keys in his pocket along with a hair tie and his wallet. His wallet contains the following: his university and observer ids, driver’s license and a $100 bill (more than likely there to impress the ladies).
Backpack containing his notes (notebooks), probably most of his notes on Sentinels and his observations of Jim, though for reasons revealed later he does not have the Burton book. A few books on ancient cultures that would normally be in his office, more than likely a couple of them written by his colleagues at Rainer. A package of 100 pieces of white printer paper. He also has a cell phone circa late 1990’s which has emergency numbers programmed in so he can call for back up and help whenever Jim needs. He also has with him a pair of reading glasses.
Blair enters at the beginning of the episode The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg.
This journal is for fun I have nothing to do with The Sentinel or Garett Maggart unfortunately.
